I can understand people's frustration with MTL, but guys, you still have the privilege of having some translation in your native language, I'm Brazilian, and my English is of a limited level. MTL allows me to play and understand these games, please don't complain with your mouth full, MTL is better than nothing. :-D

should I stop looking at visual novels altogether
the problem is very often we can't understand it and these days with ai translations the bar for translation has increased these are bad translations done with old tools that were somewhat acceptable when they were used for short dime a dozen rpgmaker porn games except these are 30+ hour novels that require actual comprehension are we supposed to just skip looking at all vns now because they might have come from sugoivn we come to these threads because we want to read an actual novel not garbled trash
The only thing we have in our mouths with this SHIT-TIER MTL is piss. MTL is worse than nothing, and I'd rather SVN start translating this shit in Portuguese instead so you can experience how dogshit this is. Pretty selfish of you to want more MTL just because you can't understand English well anyways
I would already be earning twice as much if someone started translating into Portuguese, and I've already played some horrible translations games into Portuguese, and I can say that it's much better than playing in Japanese.

I still use the old method of side by side dictionary app.
this mtl is gonna help, one window is this, one window is the japanese version, one window is the dictionary.
Ill just treat it as a qol feature update for the dictionary.

Speak for yourself. As a fellow Brazillian I'd rather have nothing than to have this garbage MTL translations. It's lazy af, they don't even bother to edit the MTL, it' fully automated and 90% of the times makes no fucking sense whatsoever. Reminds me of why it took some translators years to fully translate visual novels like Majikoi. You'd be better off just skipping the dialogue or ripping the CGs tbh.

I wonder if the yougsters were around during the early mtl boom of chinese webnovel translations

this is quite eloquent in comparison.
for those who dont know, lots of chinese webnovel character's names were turned into full sentences cause most of those names could be translated literally into [dragon emperor looming over strong mountain] not to mention of sentences where there are multiple characters and items with unique names.
imagine if you will, reading 3000 human translated chapters, and then having to read the last 400 chapters in mtl.
nowadays there are mtl for fanstuff that sounds like the original work's script cause a human edited what the machine translated. I quite like those. its a fan translation as good as any in my book. some people need to take a chill pill and get off the back off the people who make them.
I am not talking about this one, I just downloaded it.

I was there back during those days. It was trash back then, and it's trash now. Admittedly, even actual translators for novels tend to be horrible with prose, but that doesn't mean we can't have standards. Why is anyone slogging through a 30-50 hour VN when you need to scrutinize the script like a Shakespearean document to understand it?

a standard must be held. I fully agree. most fan translations meet that standard, there are also a handful of mtl/edited translations that meet that standard. I never disagreed with having standards. I just mentioned my grievences with good translations being stopped because its source was mtl.
again I am not saying this is one of them, havent read it yet.
Their is ONLY one acceptable MTL and that is edited MTL. Otherwise it is garbage no ifs ands or buts! There is no damn reason to release SHIT MTL when their is now AI translation!
So saying it's better than NOTHING is totally 100% WRONG! Rather see nothing than the crap that MTL puts out.

agreed wholeheartedly, bad is always worse than nothing.
beleive me I know, every time I see a game or a website or some book or an application be in my language, its always some english dude who used mtl and called it a day. I actually think 99% of translaters for my language use mtl for official work as it doesnt affect them personally. it is so aggreviating and having to read it when english equivalent is not available gives me a migraine as it lacks any manner of grammar. its like uncanny valley. you can't tell whats wrong but your mind keeps telling you to stop reading it.

The problem is that much of the time i actually can't understand these games when they're MTL'd. You lose context, grammar, sentence structure... If you're still unable to understand what's going on after reading a line five times, then it's not in English - it's in moonspeak.

Apparently, Takayashiro Sayuki is related to one of the other characters in the story. That is all I could find.
